Knee Woes

Well - it finally happened... I got the results back from my MRI on my right knee (i.e., previously known as my "good knee") last week and chatted with my physical therapist. It seems that I have a nasty little tear in my ACL (OK - it's completely torn off) along with some lovely medial meniscal damage.

Looks like I have another ACL reconstruction in my future... Ever since I found out about it last week, I've been having lots of flash backs to high school. Hobbling around on crutches... Leg muscles becoming severely atrophied... The good news is that they have a better procedure these days, stealing from your hamstring rather than from your patelar tendon (which came with a longer recovery and not-so-pleasant long-term pain when I kneel on anything hard).

Now, if I could only get things to settle down a little at work, I might actually have time to see an ortho doc about it! Ugh...

I don't know who to feel more sorry for...you or your wife! My Jason has had 3 knee surgeries since we've been married. Not my favorites weeks/months of marital bliss! I know...only two knees and three surgeries doesn't quite add up. That's how bad his knees were/are! Good luck on a successful surgery and quick recovery. You both will need it!

Jason, I too am a 3 knee ACL reconstruction guy... but I've always gone with cadaver tissue... so I don't see dead people, I am dead people.

Best to you as you work through the surgery/rehab. They'll build you better, stronger, faster...
