My Son, the Go-Getter

I had to comment about this... My oldest son, D, totally impressed me a couple of weeks ago. There is a series of books we're all reading that he is totally in love with -- the Fablehaven series, by Brandon Mull. Brandon does book tours to elementary schools around the country, and D decided he wanted him to come to his school. So he tromped upstairs to the computer and sent Brandon an email, asking him to come. What do you know -- he heard back from the publisher, who said that Brandon's schedule was full this school year but that they'd try to get the school on his schedule for next year! To boot -- Brandon himself followed up and wrote to D, thanking him for his email and asking D to put him in touch with the principal and/or librarian of the school to see if they can arrange the visit. Way cool! I was so proud of D for taking the initiative to reach out and make that happen. His email was very complimentary and mature for a 10-year-old -- he's a natural communicator when he puts his mind to it. ;)

That's awesome...we need more kids like that. He's a natural born leader.
